As the New York Yankees season officially comes to a close, you'll have an opportunity to see many of the Yankee prospects make their bid at a Spring Training invite next season. Granted, anyone who's been called up will most likely see time at Spring Training considering the fact that players like Austin Jackson and other Trenton players will see time there as well.
For example, Cody Ransom is playing in place of Derek Jeter today. Brett Gardner is once again going to see time. All players who would love to bid to either start or come off the bench in New York in 2009.
I did come across a few interesting articles as I read the post at the future in-laws house today. Here are a few.
Cashman wants to return: Announcement likely sooner than later
This shouldn't come as a surprise. This has been talked about the past few days and this confirms the rumors we've been hearing.
Key Aquisitions to Return the Yankees to Glory
Interesting piece by Kiernen here. While I don't disagree with everything he's saying, the Yankees can ill afford to sacrifice TOO much talent. If you're going to go after anyone, make it C.C. over Burnett. I love the idea of a new first baseman, but don't count out the possiblity of Giambi back in a one year deal with performance incentives.
Something of note with this piece, it is suggested the Yankees utilize Gardner as a starter next year. You know my thoughts on that one.
A Wasted Year?
While I take the context of the article with a grain of salt, this is an piece that shows the frustration going on in Derek Jeter's mind. Think about it. His whole career, he's always seen the post-season. He's like many Yankees fans who jumped on the bandwagon in 1996(with no disrespect to those who jumped on and have been true fans of course) and are simply not used to this.
For Jeter, he wants to win. As a Yankees fan, I'm not going to complain about that attitude.
As for next year, that's another entry all together. The big stories today in New York involved Mike Mussina and the New York Mets.
For the Mets, my deepest sympathies for Mets fans. Today wasn't an easy day for you. The second year in a row, losing out on the playoffs depsite owning that lead less than two weeks earlier. That isn't easy. It sucks to be let down, but that's the way it's been in New York the past few years for many fans. I admit, without the Giants, last year wouldn't have been very easy for me.
Of course, there are positives. Right now, Mike Mussina and the New York Yankees have a 4-2 lead. Moose is out of the game, but if the Yankees hold on to win in Boston, they will have given the Mussina his 20th win of the season for the first time in his great career. He's been a terrific story this season(and is another potentail one year contract waiting to happen) and I know that I've got my fingers crossed that the Bronx Bombers can hold on to this lead for the Moose.
